Have you ever wanted to start painting but haven’t found the time or simply found it too daunting and didn’t know where to begin? Maybe you’re a little rusty and would like to get back into painting again?
….Well this one day painting workshop is perfect for just that! Led by professional artist Kelly Jenkins, she will guide you through some of the basic mechanics of working with acrylics, undoing myths and perceptions of this medium being hard to tackle and introduce you to some her unique and slightly anarchic techniques of approaching acrylics for the first time! You won’t have touched a single brush all day and you will still produce your own masterpiece! We’ll be painting with wood, plastic, card, sponge, squeegees, rollers, feathers and palette knives, the list goes on! And with Kelly’s relaxed and positive teaching style you are guaranteed to have plenty of fun exploring your inner artist and letting go of any self-doubt in this workshop.
Kelly will share with you some of her close guarded techniques that she adopts in her own work to create energy, texture and atmosphere through light and colour. You don’t have to be an experienced painter to achieve this, just a willingness to dive in, explore and let go! As well as group demos and discussions, Kelly will teach you on a one to one level as the day progresses as your pieces become more individual.
The day will look something like this:
9.45am to 10am – Everyone arrives, meet fellow artists, have a chat and a cuppa.
10am to 12pm- Introduction to materials and tools we will play with, followed by your own exploration and experimentation. Kelly will guide you through; how to set a good landscape composition, selecting and mixing colour, how to achieve texture and create atmosphere. Above all: HOW TO PLAY!
12.30 to 1pm – Stop for a light bite for lunch of sandwiches, fruit, biscuits and refreshments.
1pm to 4pm – Building on from your newly acquired knowledge of techniques and tools from the morning, each artist will set to work at producing a large scale canvas (at least 50cm x 50cm).
Throughout the day you will gain a good understanding of the nature of acrylics, a variety of painting tools you can use and interference mediums you add. You’ll gain an insight into the style of Joseph Turner’s work through Romanticism and Abstraction, selecting colour palettes, and how to use light to create atmosphere in your paintings.
This will be a really fun and energised day where you get to explore, experiment and create to the full and produce your very own atmospheric masterpiece to be proud of!
